The energy, utilities, and resources vertical has a long history of using connected solutions to monitor performance and improve efficiency. The use of connected solutions in this sector began well before the era of IoT, with SCADA and telematics systems being used in the electric grids since the 1970s. However, with most countries in the world now committed to carbon footprint reduction and sustainable development, IoT has become a key element of provider strategies to achieve these goals, as well as continuing to drive performance efficiency in resource discovery, extraction, and distribution. 

The following report – a collaboration between Industrial IoT World, Ovum and the Utility Analytics Institute – looks at uses of IoT, AI and blockchain in the utilities industry. From smart meters and predictive maintenance, to grid management and asset tracking, the integration of these technologies in utilities and energy has already begun.
