Recommendations

Recommendations for enterprises

  • Before embarking on any new or emerging technology initiative it is essential to understand how these can be leveraged in the specific vertical and business context. The same technology will find different applications and will deliver different results for different businesses.
  • Technology should not be adopted just because everyone else or your major competitor in the industry is doing it. Enterprises should seek the help and advice of partners that possess deep expertise in the technology and its vertical and business applications.
  • Omdia also strongly recommends crafting a detailed technology adoption roadmap with objectives and key KPIs that can be linked back to a tangible business outcome/value laid out from the start to make it easier to determine if the technologies are suitable.
  • Small pilots or quick starts that involve stakeholders from the IT and business side are recommended as way to test innovative solutions aimed at enhancing workflows and business processes.

Recommendations for vendors

  • Most emerging technology engagements will invariably be consulting led as customers will requires expert advice. Building service practices and centers of excellence (CoEs) around each technology are recommended as these will allow customers to co-innovate and therefore be more invested and involved in engagements.
  • The ability to visualize each emerging technology in the business context and articulate key business challenges where these would deliver tangible benefits will be the crux of a winning formula.
  • It is also essential to cultivate a wider variety of delivery models that account for the differences in customer maturity and appetite for risk and involvement.
