OTA UPDATES:
REAL-TIME MONITORING

Different IoT devices have varying security requirements. The continuous deployment of over-the-air (OTA) updates, potentially made through IoT gateways or the cloud, is crucial to securing enterprise IoT networks.

Patch schedules may be missed or ignored in case software updates disrupt operations or are incompatible with other devices, but it only takes one vulnerable device to cause internal chaos.

However, knowing when and which device requires a security update when high numbers of IoT products are in use can be difficult.

Edge computing can provide support in this manner through real-time data analysis.

Vendors are also exploring ways to bridge the gap between IoT devices and core systems through secure, encrypted, low-latency communication channels and remote monitoring platforms made possible through cloud technology.

Establishing these channels can be used to make sure all devices and software are up-to-date, compliant, and operating correctly.

"There is evidently significant need for greater awareness and understanding of the importance of cyber risk management, not only to protect existing businesses, but to create more secure environments to grow and capitalise on the potential that digital technology advances bring to manufacturers."
